In the first of what will amount to four videos showing us behind the scenes of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 3, we get an idea as to exactly how much work and dedication goes into making an installment of one of the best game franchises this-gen.
Apparently we can expect thirty hours of gameplay, along with two and a half hours of cinematics which will all be made by the staggering seven hundred people currently working on the game.
Our newest Assassin is a half British, half Mohawk called Connor. Rather than the revenge that motivated our previous protagonist, Connor will be focused on bringing people to justice. In the game he attempts to assassinate important historical figures at key points in order to influence direction of the raging Civil War.
It looks like Ubisoft is again going for historical accuracy. In the video we’re introduced to, or at least given glances of, weapon experts, war historians, soldiers, and experts on Native Americans and their language. It’s easy to see that Ubisoft are going even further than in previous games, dedicated to accuracy as well as amazing gameplay. In designing the two main cities in the game, Boston and New York, the team actually found maps of the cities from that time and re-created every street digitally.
A good chunk of the game almost looks like a Real Time Strategy game, the time setting makes it look much like Empire: Total War. It makes me wonder how much control you’ll have over some of the armies, or if we’re just getting shown the lovely new engine. AnvilNext comes with one of the most impressive weather systems ever seen outside Skyrim mods.
We again see that, rather than the city settings of previous instalments, a lot of platforming will take place in the forest, with our protagonist leaping from branch to branch before going for the kill. Although cities will still be present, with Boston and New York being the largest ones.
Assassin’s Creed 3 looks like it’s turning out to be one of the biggest and best games of the year. My expectations just shot way up and hopefully, come October, AS3 will deliver.
