Next Elder Scrolls Game to Be An… MMO?

Yes, you read that right. It appears that the next installment in the super-hugely-popular Elder Scrolls series will, in fact, be a massively multiplayer online type game.

Oh SNAP!

What, you think I’m making this stuff up? Per the recent June magazine cover reveal feature on the (most excellent) Game Informer website:

“Long rumored and much anticipated, The Elder Scrolls Online is finally being unveiled in the June issue of Game Informer. In this month’s cover story we journey across the entire land of Tamriel, from Elsweyr to Skyrim and everywhere in between.

“Developed by the team at Zenimax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online merges the unmatched exploration of rich worlds that the franchise is known for with the scale and social aspects of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Players will discover an entirely new chapter of Elder Scrolls history in this ambitious world, set a millennium before the events of Skyrim as the daedric prince Molag Bal tries to pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm.”

Did you hear that boys and girls? It’s going to officially be called The Elder Scrolls Online. Which obviously indicates — in addition to an entire cover feature done on the game in the upcoming issue of Game Informer, of course — that this is an actual, already-been-in-development game. A la, it isn’t too good to be true. Hooray!

And no, it’s not being ported to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in some amazingly legendary feat of game code wizardry. Sorry…

There are even more details on what we can expect from said feature over at the Game Informer website. Be sure to stick around here on OWNT, though, for any and all relevant (and probably even irrelevant) news, rumors and details regarding both The Elder Scrolls Online and all of your other favorite games. (Pro-tip: Just bookmark us. It’s much easier that way)

Joshua Galligan first became addicte– err… first got his illustrious start in gaming by relentlessly annoying his older brothers until they’d finally let him run Sonic the Hedgehog through the loop-dee-loops back on the Sega Genesis. Suffice it to say, he’s been passionately chasing those proverbial “loop-dee-loops” as a gamer ever since. When Joshua isn’t playing games entirely too often (according to some), he enjoys reading, writing, “theoretically” gambling on everything from football to Words with Friends, pretending he knows how to cook, MMA, and — perhaps most of all — attending and participating in tea parties thrown by his four year-old daughter. In addition, he strongly dislikes scallions, traffic, the color yellow, and his favorite color is green.
