New Rise of Nightmares Trailer is…Interesting?

Rise of Nightmares is an upcoming Sega title specifically designed for the Kinect. Since it’s survival horror, and survival horror is my jam, I’ve been pretty curious about the game and what it’s going to look like (my general impression so far has been ”zombies + Hostel+ Kinect-induced flailing = Rise of Nightmares,” which isn’t a terrible idea, all things considered).

But they recently released a new trailer for it called “Welcome to the Nightmare,” and my curiosity became tinged with confusion. And now every time I watch it, I find myself tilting my head really far to the left like an owl.

Check it out:

I’m not sure what’s going on here. I mean, I’d sort of gotten used to people trying to shoehorn big-chested nurses into various Silent Hill products they don’t belong in, but here they are in an entirely unrelated franchise, and that’s disorienting.

"I think it's perfectly clear we're in the wrong band game."

Okay, okay  – I know they’re not supposed to actually be Silent Hill nurses (at least, I don’t think so, anyway), but the resemblance is uncanny. Maybe someone at Sega forgot what game he or she was working on?

Anyway, I will naturally have to reserve judgment on the quality of this game until I actually play it, but this trailer is not doing much for my confidence in it. Mostly ‘cos I can’t figure out what they’re trying to do here. Perhaps I will go meditate on possible good reasons for using a character design from another game, and therefore come up with something that won’t give me a crick in the neck next time I watch this trailer. And then everyone wins.

Rise of Nightmares is developed and published by Sega, and will hit shelves this September, 2011, for the XBox 360/Kinect.

Share and Enjoy!

I’m an avid gamer that spends a lot of time saying things (about stuff) on the Internet. A PlayStation girl at heart, I also keep an XBox 360 around, just in case, as well as various handhelds and older consoles, because no matter how cool next gen gaming gets, the classics are called “classics” for a reason, friends and neighbors.
