In a move that was inevitable since… well, Microsoft Points were first implemented with the original Xbox, Microsoft has apparently decided against continuing into 2012 with the currency system. No word yet on why they didn’t just roll with a straight-money system to begin with…
But where is this seemingly common-sense news breaking out of, you ask? Well… let’s quote part of the article, per InsideMobileApps.com, who’ve seemingly labeled the rumor as an “exclusive” despite not quoting or revealing any sources whatsoever:
“By the end of 2012, all transactions will be based on the region set on the purchasing account and real money will be used to purchase all Windows Phone content. The move puts the Windows Phone Marketplace in line with the purchasing practices used in the App Store and the Android Market.
“When asked Microsoft declined to provide further information, with a Microsoft spokesperson responding with ‘we do not comment on rumours or speculation.’”
Color me crazy, but doesn’t this just sound like this site made up the rumor and tried to make it sound valid by contacting Microsoft? I mean, “we do not comment on rumors or speculation” essentially outs the entire thing not as an exclusive, but as a rumor, no?
Am I reading too much into this right now?
Do you wish I would stop asking questions?
Stay tuned for further updates (if any) on this potentially common-sense-fulfilling rumor right here on OWNT!

Josh Galligan first got his illustrious start gaming by annoying his older brothers relentlessly until they finally let him run Sonic through the loop-dee-loops on the Sega Genesis. A miniscule start, indeed, but a passionate one! While presently an avid and frequent gamer, he also enjoys reading, writing, watching/gambling on football, MMA, pretending he knows how to cook and -- most of all -- attending and enjoying tea parties with his two year-old daughter. |
