Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Trailer Shows Futuristic Gadgets

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has its first multiplayer trailer today, showing more of the frantic shooter action we’re used to from the Call of Duty games, but it also shows us more.

Being set in the near future, we have some futuristic toys to play with. The trailer only shows them for a moment, but let’s see what we can pick out.

Early on we see a grenade that appears not to explode, but to let off an electrical charge? It looks like the enemy is stunned by the grenade and stops moving, giving an easy kill.

Next we see a gadget that looks somewhat like a square radar-dish. At first I thought it gave out a magnetic effect but whatever strange wave it emits appears to disorientate and slow your opponents, leaving them open to become riddled with bullets.

We quickly move on to something that is obviously a UAV, which has a mounted machine gun on it, and causes a sizeable explosion if it crashes. Taking out a crowd of players with a well-timed explosion is always fun.

Next we see a kind of riot shield, nothing new to Call of Duty, but with a twist. By planting it in the ground you can fire through a small hole in the shield and basically make your own cover!

Then we see that someone in the Call of Duty team apparently likes anime. Black Ops 2 features a mech. It’s only on screen for the briefest of moments so it doesn’t show us if the metal monster has legs or treads, but damn it looks fun.

Finally, and second in awesomeness only to the mech, we see not one but a swarm of UAV’s that seem to automatically target players and crash into or near them to explode and cause damage.

We can also see a few of the maps, ranging from a windfarm, to a dock, some form of urban area and a ruined city in the middle east (oh the surprise).
